The Government of Canada’s job searching website is taking a step into the modern age, with the announcement that Job Bank will now be available as a mobile app.

“Canadians need access to Government resources when and where it is convenient for them,” stated the press release. Minister of employment, workforce development, and labour Patty Hajdu made the announcement Thursday with the release calling it “the Government of Canada’s next step in their goal to provide Canadians with digital services that work for them.”

Job Bank is the federal government’s nationwide, bilingual job search site that offers listings from government agencies and private companies as well.

The app will be available through the iOS App Store and Google Play. Canadians using the federal government’s job search site will be able to access listings through the app, just as they would on the website.

“Users can search through tens of thousands of Canadian jobs and create Job Alerts based on their search criteria,” stated the release from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) which is a department of the Government of Canada responsible for social programs and the labour market.

The ESDC says the app creates a new platform for employers to promote jobs to thousands of people across the country. Also noting that it is making Job Bank an easy on-the-go-service that offers customized job searches with the option for geo-location searches.

Though it was officially launched today the mobile app became available in early 2018 and has already had over 50,000 downloads and 438,000 job searches.

The Government of Canada has a number of different apps, some for mobile, some web-based. The Job Bank app is just its newest in a lineup of apps that includes apps from the CRA, Canadian Armed Forces and even an app titled, ‘How Canadian are you, eh?’ from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

“We have come a long way since the days of paper job postings pinned to boards, and we are taking it one step further with the Job Bank app. It’s the next step in our efforts to deliver high-quality digital services to Canadians,” Hajdu says.
