What's Going on Here?: Santa parade closes downtown Whitchurch-Stouffville

Holiday festivities close Main Street Dec. 1, 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Park Drive 6 a.m. Dec. 1 to noon Dec. 2.

Kick off the holiday season with the tradition that captures the heart of both young and old -- the annual Santa Claus Parade.

For the first time Santa will visit Whitchurch-Stouffville at night.

Under the magic of twinkle lights, some 40 decorated floats, community groups, bands, dance and sports teams will be spreading holiday cheer along Main Street during the nighttime parade.

Residents are encouraged to scope out a spot along the route and bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Merry and Bright Christmas Party in the Park
The magic happens at the end with special appearances by Santa, Mrs. Claus, Rudolph and his gang of reindeer.

The festivities continue after the parade with the Merry and Bright Christmas Party in the Park, featuring a live Christmas singalong, warm treats and a firework display.

Just the Facts:

Santa Parade

• Date: Dec. 1
• Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
• Route: The parade travels east along Main Street from Ninth Line to Park Drive.
• Road Closures:
• Main Street: Mostar to Stouffer street starting at 3:30 to 9 p.m. Main Street will reopen behind the parade.
• Park Drive: Main Street to Booth Drive starting at 3:30 to 10 p.m.

Merry and Bright: Christmas Party in the Park

• Date: Dec. 1, 8 to 9 p.m., fireworks start at 9 p.m.
• Location: Memorial Park, 2 Park Dr.
• Road Closure: Park Drive: Booth Drive to the Whitchurch-Stouffville Leisure Centre, 2 Park Dr. starting at 6 a.m. on Dec. 1 to noon Dec. 2.
