Whitchurch-Stouffville getting help for Main Street revitalization

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is going to get a little extra help for its Main Street revitalization. The town is set to receive $70,138.25 for the project through an Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs program.
In January 2018, Ontario’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and the Minister Responsible for Small Business announced the Main Street Revitalization Initiative. The $26-million initiative was created to support capital improvements
The Association of Municipalities of Ontario is carrying out the fund administration on behalf of OMAFRA.
Funding is allocated to municipalities based on population size, using the most recent data from the 2016 Statistics Canada census of population.
Manager of capital projects Brian Kavanagh told council earlier this year that the Main Street portion between Ninth Line and Albert Street most likely won't go forward until 2020 and could be further delayed by work needed to open up Edward Street to Millard Street.
