Kick off the holiday season with the tradition that captures the heart of all--young and old--the annual Santa Claus parade.
Leslie Street will be adorned with colourful lights and costumes. The sounds of holiday tunes played out on local marching bands will fill the air.
Community groups, local businesses, school and professional marching bands, dance teams and sports groups will be spreading holiday cheer during the nighttime parade.
Residents are encouraged to scope out a spot along the route and bring lawn chairs and blankets.
This year’s parade theme is Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.
The magic of it all happens at the end of the parade with special appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with Rudolph and his gang of reindeer.
Just the Facts:
- Date: Nov. 17
- Time: 6 to 7:30 p.m.
- Route: The 2.2-kilometre parade travels south along Leslie Street, starting at William F. Bell Parkway and ending at Performance Drive.
- Street Closures: Leslie Street will be closed between 19th Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive starting at 5:30 p.m. Roads will reopen as the parade passes. On-street parking is prohibited along the parade route.
- The parade will feature about 80 decorated floats along with several marching bands, colourful costumes and clowns.
- Non-perishable food items will be collected during the parade.
- Canada Post letter carriers will be collecting letters for Santa, addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, Canada.
