A travel advisory has been issued by Environment Canada for Toronto and the GTA due to snowy winter weather conditions moving in to the city.
We are on the cusp of the largest snowfall event of the season so far, according to the weather agency.
Environment Canada says the city could see as much as 10 cm of snow before the weather system moves on.
“A deepening low pressure system” will move up from the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. into southern Ontario Thursday afternoon, Environment Canada says, bringing snowfall with it that could complicate travel for drivers. There may be poor visibility, and untreated roads could be slippery.
The snow is set to continue into early Friday morning and taper off throughout the day.
The snow could be as deep as 5-10 cm and most of it is expected to fall Thursday evening.
With the wind chill, it is expected to feel like -9 C Thursday morning, with a high of 1 C for the day. Friday is set to be slightly warmer, with a high of 3 C. As temperatures rise on Friday, the snow should transition into light rain, Environment Canada says.
The city of Toronto is under the weather advisory as well as Halton, Peel, York and Durham regions.
