Faller firefighter Chris Lowe’s dedication and positive attitude will live on.

Upon the one-year anniversary of his death, Central York Fire Serves commemorated the late Lowe with a memorial award.

Lowe was recruited to CYFS in March 2016 after serving as a firefighter in the Collingwood area.

He died suddenly of an off-duty medical incident on Nov. 16, 2017.

During the Chris Lowe Memorial Award unveiling, the rookie recruit was described as well educated, motivated and dedicated.

“He made a great impression in his short time here,” said fire chief Ian Laing, who unveiled the memorial award during the ceremony in front of Lowe’s family, fellow firefighters and council members from both Newmarket and Aurora.

“(Lowe’s) strength was getting people to work together.”

The award will be housed at the CYFS Aurora 4-3 Station, where Lowe was stationed.

The first recipient was Brooklin Bamlet representing the class of 2018.

The memorial award is to be bestowed upon a new recruit who best exemplifies outstanding firefighting skills, high academic performance, teamwork, charisma, personal growth and dedication.

Lowe was chosen by his recruit classmates as the class valedictorian.

“The award will be given to those who mirror examples set by Lowe,” Laing said.
