Tunnels dug along road for new water main and sewers

The Region of Peel is building a new water main under Burnhamthorpe Road between Grand Park Drive and Cawthra Road.
JUST THE FACTS
- The Region is constructing a 1,500- millimetre (60-inch) water main.
- For tunnelling operations, crews have begun construction on a series of deep shafts up to 25 metres along Burnhamthorpe Road.
- These shafts are located just east of Grand Park Drive (on the south side), Hurontario Street, and Central Parkway. Shafts will soon be constructed on Cawthra Road.
- The Region is also installing a 1,200-millimetre sanitary sewer in a tunnel along Duke of York Boulevard and Burnhamthorpe Road.
- Shaft construction has begun on Duke of York Boulevard at Burnhamthorpe Road and Prince of Wales Drive. Another shaft is planned further north on Rathburn Road.
- Construction is expected to be complete by mid-2020 and the rest of the project by 2021.
