Georgina’s Scot Davidson quickly shifted gears from individual candidate to team player after winning the Conservative Party’s York-Simcoe federal nomination on the first ranked ballot Oct. 20.

Acknowledging his worthy fellow candidates -- Georgina’s Heather Fullerton and Bradford West Gwillimbury’s Jason Verkaik -- in his acceptance speech following the vote at the Mt. Albert Community Centre, Davidson added they are all on the same team at the end of the day.

“We’ve got to go out and win against the Liberals,” he told the crowd gathered, which included the riding's long-time and now retired MP Peter Van Loan, former Conservative MPP for York-Simcoe Julia Munro, and York-Simcoe MPP and Attorney General Caroline Mulroney.

Although the federal election is slated for October 2019, the expectation is that byelections will be called shortly to fill not only the York-Simcoe seat left vacant after the retirement of Van Loan, but also four other vacancies.

“I’m really looking forward to the byelection being called right away,” said Davidson, who has owned and operated numerous companies during the span of his career, but is most known as the owner of the former Bonnie Boats marina in Jackson’s Point.

Small business is a main pillar in Davidson’s campaign, which also includes support of the Hwy. 400-404 connecting link.

Davidson thanked the many volunteers and new party members that signed up during the month-long nomination campaign, as well as the 513 party members that voted on Oct. 20.

He also thanked his family who “have given up so much to support me through this journey”, as well as his campaign team for all of their efforts to help him achieve the honour of representing the party in the riding.

“I look forward to the challenges ahead in helping our Conservative Party win the next federal election.”
