Ellen Gowland, Whitchurch-Stouffville Ward 2 candidate

I have lived in Ward 2 for 14 years and during that time have not had the opportunity to meet or speak with any of our candidates for council. I have never had a candidate knock on my door, leave a pamphlet or invite me to a public meeting. In short, I have not felt like my voice was heard at town hall. When I spoke with my friends and neighbours who live in our ward, they told me they felt the same, unrepresented.

I want to change that! I will be a strong voice for this community in town hall and beyond!

I am a lawyer and have practised in the area of personal injury law for the past 18 years. As litigation counsel, I have years of experience managing complex relationships and advocating on behalf of others. These are skills that I want to put to work at town hall on behalf of our residents. I will make sure your voice is heard. I will work with the other members of council in a professional and respectful manner for the good of our community and our town.

While development is inevitable, we need to ensure it is done in a manner that is respectful of the unique environment that is Ward 2 and that residents are consulted and kept abreast of what is happening. All residents of the ward need to be included in this process.

Through regular meetings with the community and updates on my webpage, I will keep residents up-to-date on what is happening at town hall. I also want to hear from you, the residents, to know what is important to you and hear your concerns and discuss ideas. As a councillor, I work for you, and I will never forget that. I want all residents to feel connected, and important, and empowered.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Look forward to working with all of you as we move our community into the future.
