About Jacob Joel Ginsberg, B.B.A., B.Ed., L.L.B. -- Joel is a retired lawyer and builder/developer who has lived his entire adult life in Thornhill. Joel was born in Toronto in 1955 to Canadian-born parents. In 1995 Joel ran as a candidate for the Ontario Provincial Conservative Party under Mike Harris in the downtown Toronto riding of Fort York, but was defeated by the incumbent MPP. Joel has again at this time decided to run in this municipal election so that he may give back and solve one of the most pressing issues and crises facing us and our children today: the housing crisis. And make no mistake, this is a crisis. Joel is running in this election because he has devised a well-thought-out plan over the past 24 months to solve the housing crisis and to provide affordable housing, not in the form of social/welfare housing, but affordable homes for the average hard working Canadian -- the middle-income families, students and young couples who have worked so long and hard to graduate with a good education, the seniors, and everyone who can no longer afford to pay inflated prices for a home they wish to buy nor can afford the exorbitant rent charged by landlords for so many investor condo apartments. The plan calls for the construction, over the next three years, of 50,000 townhouse-like units, each being approximately 2,000 square feet, to be built throughout York Region and the Greater Toronto Area and to be sold for only one-third to one-half of today's market value of newly built units of the same size, approximately $500,000 to $600,000! Also, the plan calls for the construction of 100,000 affordable two-bedroom rental units of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 square feet which will rent out at well below market rate at $1,000 a month. The plan requires no government funding and no free government land. My plan will change your lives, the lives of your parents and the lives of your children!
