Whitchurch-Stouffville bylaw officers are now giving out positive tickets as part of the town’s new positive ticketing campaign.
The initiative came to fruition in memory of beloved, late staff member Linda Mainprize. Mainprize, manager of municipal law enforcement and with the town for 17 years, died suddenly in June 2018 and had begun the planning for this campaign a few months before.
The positive ticketing campaign is intended to encourage good deeds through rewards and recognition.
“Sometimes people are intimidated by our uniform and we just want everyone to know that we are making Whitchurch-Stouffville a fun and safe place to live, work and play,” bylaw officer Sandra Brunton said.
Patrolling officers are keeping an eye out for kids and parents who are properly using crosswalks and crossing guards, parking in proper areas near the school and not in fire routes or even walking or biking to school. You can also get a positive ticket for doing good deeds around the community and being an overall good neighbour and citizen. Teachers, parents and neighbours can also call the bylaw department when they notice a good deed being done and an officer can come administer a positive ticket.
Each positive ticket gives the recipient a ‘Free Leisure Pass’. This includes free drop in visits for skating, swimming, spin class and much more, or it can be redeemed as a ‘Buy One Get One Free’ ticket for the museum or even 19 on The Park. For more information, visit www.townofws.ca/whatsnew.
