Business leaders of the real estate company HBNG Holborn Group announced a $2-million gift toward the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital to help build its main courtyard.

Three leaders -- John A. D’Angelo, Giuseppe Maio and Claudio Memme -- presented the cheque to Mackenzie Health Foundation at HBNG Holborn Group offices in Vaughan Sept. 25.

The $2-million gift will contribute to the foundation’s $250-million Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign -- the largest fundraising drive by a community hospital in Canada.

“The generosity and leadership of John, Giuseppe and Claudio will help create new possibilities for patients and families to thrive during their health care journey,” says Ingrid Perry, president and CEO, Mackenzie Health Foundation. “Building a hospital is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about building the best patient experience -- from the minute our patients enter, to the moment they leave. This exceptional gift will help us create the hospital our community deserves.”

The $2-million gift from the three HBNG leaders will go toward the construction of the main courtyard with cascading gardens designed for patients and families as an essential therapeutic space for recreation, socialization and respite, according to a press release from the Mackenzie Health Foundation.

“It is our hope that with this gift we can help contribute to the well-being of not only patients but also their families,” D’Angelo, Maio and Memme said jointly at the cheque presentation.

Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, scheduled to open in late 2020, will be the first hospital to be built in York Region in more than 30 years and the first-ever hospital in the City of Vaughan.

The $1.6-billion project, covering an area of 1.2 million square feet, will feature fully integrated “smart” technology systems and medical services.

To date, the foundation’s the Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign has raised $113 million.

The campaign was spearheaded by a 33-member cabinet co-chaired by Greg Sorbara, former Liberal MPP and former finance minister, and Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.

HBNG Holborn Group, a Vaughan-based real estate developer, provides services in developing and building of industrial property, commercial property, municipal infrastructure and residential lands across Canada.
