What you need to know about Toronto’s 25 new wards

After weeks of electoral confusion, with candidates not knowing where to campaign and uncertainty about whether it would even be possible to hold an election Oct. 22, there’s finally certainty.

Residents can head to the polls as early as Oct. 10 for advance voting that runs until Oct. 14 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily, according to the city clerk’s office.

Election Day is officially Oct. 22 and polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be 25 wards that have the same boundaries as provincial ridings. Residents must vote in the ward where they live or own or rent property.

Ward 1 Etobicoke North

Boundaries: Steeles Ave. W. to the north, Humber River to the east, Dixon Rd., Eglinton Ave. W. and Hwy. 401 to south and Renforth Dr. and Hwy. 427 to the west.

Demographics: There are 118,040 people with an average age of 38. The average household size is three people with a median household income of $61,247. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 75 per cent.

Candidates: Vincent Crisanti (incumbent); Peter D’Gama; Naiima Farah; Michael Ford (incumbent); Michelle Garcia; Christopher Noor, Shirish Patel, Gurinder Patri and Carol Royer.

Other representatives: MPP Doug Ford (PC) and MP Kirsty Duncan (Liberal).

Ward 2 Etobicoke Centre

Boundaries: Martin Grove Rd. and Dixon Rd. to the north, Humber River to the east, Mimico Creek to the south and Hwy. 427 to the west.

Demographics: There are 118,022 people with an average age of 44. The average household size is 2.6 people with a median household income of $82,402. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 27 per cent.

Candidates: Bill Boersma, John Campbell (incumbent), Angelo Carnevale, Erica Kelly and Stephen Holyday (incumbent).

Other representatives: MPP Kinga Surma (PC) and MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj (Liberal).

Ward 3 Etobicoke Lakeshore

Boundaries: Bloor St. W., Kipling Ave. and Mimico Creek to the north, Humber River to the east, the waterfront to the south and Etobicoke Creek to the west.

Demographics: There are 129,081 people with an average age of 42. The average household size is 2 people with a median household income of $71,894. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 27 per cent.

Candidates: Svitlana Burlakova, Iain Davis, Pamela Gough, Mark Grimes (incumbent), Robert Gunnyon, Michael Julihen, Michael Loomans, Amber Morley, Peggy Moulder and Patrizia Nigro.

Other representatives: MPP Christine Hogarth (PC) and MP James Maloney (Liberal).

Ward 4 Parkdale High Park

Boundaries: CPR tracks to the north, CN and CPR tracks to the east, the waterfront to the south and Humber River to the west.

Demographics: There are 108,805 people with an average age of 40. The average household size is two people with a median household income of $65,651. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 25.6 per cent.

Candidates: Kalsang Dolma, David Ginsberg, Valerie Grdisa, Taras Kulish, Mercy Okalowe, Nick Pavlov, Alex Perez, Gord Perks (incumbent), Evan Tummillo and José Vera.

Other representatives: MPP Bhutila Karpoche (NDP) and MP Arif Virani (Liberal).

Ward 5 York South--Weston

Boundaries: Hwy. 401 to the north; GO rail to the east; CPR rail to the south; and the Humber River to the west.

Demographics: There are 116,686 people with an average age of 40. The average household size is 2.6 people with a median household income of $53,292. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 54 per cent.

Candidates: Keaton Austin, Deeqa Barre, Joey Carapinha, Frank Di Giorgio (incumbent), Fred Fosu, Harpreet Gulri, Frances Nunziata (incumbent), Cedric Ogilvie, Lekan Olawoye, Chiara Padovani and Luis Portillo.

Ward 6 York Centre

Boundaries: Sheppard Ave. W., Grandravine Dr. and Steeles Ave. W. to the north, Bathurst St. and Don River to the east, Hwy. 401 to the south and Jane St. and Keele St. to the west.

Demographics: There are 104,319 people with an average age of 41. The average household size is 2.6 people with a median household income of $61,069. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 59 per cent.

Candidates: Maria Augimeri (incumbent), James Pasternak (incumbent), Louise Russo and Edward Zaretsky.

Other representatives: MPP Roman Baber (PC) and MP Michael Levitt (Liberal).

Ward 7 Humber River--Black Creek

Boundaries: Steeles Ave. W. to the north, Keele St., Black Creek and Jane St. to the east, Grandravine Dr., Sheppard Ave. W., Hwy. 401 to the south, Humber River to the west.

Demographics: There are 108,037 people with an average age of 38. The average household size is three people with a median total household income of $53,518. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 74 per cent.

Candidates: Kristy-Ann Charles, Amanda Coombs, Tiffany Ford, Winston La Rose, Giorgio Mammoliti (incumbent), Anthony Perruzza (incumbent), Deanna Sgro and Kerry-Ann Thomas.

Ward 8 Eglinton Lawrence

Boundaries: Hwy. 401 to the north, Yonge St. to the east, Eglinton Ave. to the south and CNR tracks to the west.

Demographics: There are 114,395 people with an average age of 40.4. The average household size is 2.6 people with a median household income of $78,670. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 31 per cent.

Demographics: There are 107,900 people with an average age of 43. The average household size is two people with a median household income of $70,655. The percentage of visible minorities in the ward is 28 per cent.

Candidates: Elizabeth Cook, Artur Langu, Ian Lipton, Josh Matlow (incumbent), Joe Mihevc (incumbent) and Bob Murphy.

Ward 13 Toronto Centre

Boundaries: Charles St. and Rosedale Valley Rd. to the north, Don River to the east, Mill St. and The Esplanade to the south and Bay St. to the west.

Candidates: Jon Burnside (incumbent), Tanweer Khan, Minh Le, Jaye Robinson (incumbent) and Nikola Streker.

Ward 16 Don Valley East

Boundaries: Hwy. 401 to the north, Victoria Park Ave. to the east, Sunrise Ave. and Don River to the south, Don River and Leslie St. to the west and the 401 to the north.
