Talib Ansari has bowed out of the Newmarket mayoral race.
He initially put his name forward to give residents more of a choice when it comes to electing a mayor. He thought it was high time to use his two decades of private and government sector experience to put forth a new vision for Newmarket.
“The hallmark of a good government is to provide an environment where people can find jobs, acquire higher education, receive health care, and live in peace,” he wrote on his campaign website.
After his first stint of campaigning and door knocking, he felt his platform was not catching voters' support.
“Yes, I have withdrawn from the race,” he said on Sept. 18. “I’m withdrawing for personal reasons.”
Voters still have two choices to fill outgoing mayor Tony Van Bynen’s seat: John Taylor and Joe Wamback.
Newmarket residents can vote online or by phone beginning Oct. 13 and ending Oct. 22. There will be no in-person polling stations this municipal election.
Those who wish to cast a ballot must be registered on the voters list and can register or update information by visiting Newmarket Votes online.
