I am Denis Van Decker, candidate for Aurora town council. I think a councilor should be a protector – of tax dollars, residents’ rights and the environment.
I was born in Toronto, grew up in Sarnia and made Aurora my family’s home in 2002. Since then we have enjoyed the great things about Aurora: sports, trails, events, the Santa Claus parade and Hoedown, as well as not so great things like traffic, bureaucracy and bylaws.
I am an entrepreneur, installing solar systems in York Region. My wife is an insurance broker in Aurora and we have a beautiful, bilingual seven-year-old son. We volunteer at our church and with our son’s sports teams.
I am a former vice chair of the Aurora committee of adjustment and was an economic development officer for Sarnia-Lambton. I was active in the local Green party and wrote the national policy on justice and energy.
I have a chemical engineering degree from the University of Waterloo, where I was president of the Student Engineering Society and a founder of Waterloo Engineers Toronto Alumni.
Engineers think from a problem solving point of view. This governs my professional life as an entrepreneur and I want to apply it to the business of the Town of Aurora to reduce regulation, size of government and taxes for everyone from young families to seniors who are finding it increasingly difficult to afford to live here.
I sum up my platform as VAN:
V is for my vision of Aurora councillors as protectors of tax dollars, citizens rights and the environment.
A is for accountability and transparency. My No. 1 priority. Poor management leads to bad information and bad decisions.
N is for new ideas. My fresh approach and thinking will bring positive benefits to every aspect of Aurora life. On my website I detail over 20 of them in videos and blogs.
If elected, I would be your protector on town council.
Bring Van to council. Vote Van Decker.
