Gin Siow --Markham Ward 6 councillor candidate

City government requires councillors that are committed to addressing the concerns of residents. They need to able understand the big issues involved with major development projects, while at the same time taking care of individual resident issues. Being available to residents, ensuring that they are invited to public debate, and ensuring their voice is heard on important issue is what Gin is all about.

Gin believes that we need a change in government, starting in Ward 6, and commits to addressing the following issues:

Improve traffic flow and reduce congestion

Increase affordable housing

Public disclosure of gifts and sponsorships

Prompt action on resident issues

Improve winter snow plowing issue

Born in Malaysia and raised in Singapore, Gin moved to Canada in 1982 with a degree in mechanical engineering from the Nanyang Technological University. Through his Mazda car dealership’s sponsorship activities, he became involved in the community and started to engage in local social issues.

Gin has won two major awards for business excellence, won the Most Outstanding Asian Canadian Award in 2009, and received recognition for 10 years of volunteer service in Ontario. Gin has participated in fundraising efforts for numerous community groups and Markham Stouffville Hospital, raising more than $2 million. Over the past few years, Gin has been involved with the Markham Food Bank, senior’s citizen’s groups, and local festivals.

Gin is the president of the Support Enhance Access Service (S.E.A.S.) Centre, which supports domestic violence prevention, youth leadership training, and community development. For the more than 15 years, Gin has been the past national chair of the Chinese Canadian Conservative Association, vice-president of the Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs, and vice-president of the Richmond Hill Markham Chinese Business Association.
