Daniel Lajeunesse --Aurora council candidate

Over my 20-year career, I have gained significant experience negotiating with communities to improve local business involvement, create traffic management strategies and most recently participated in the consultation process for smart city (city of the future) projects. Leveraging new technologies, Aurora can reduce operating costs, improve community engagement and reduce the negative impacts of urban sprawl on the quality of life of our town. In fact, the Government of Canada invited all Canadian cities and towns across the country to participate in their $300-million Smart City challenge … 200 communities participated, but Aurora did not!

As councillor, I will leverage my experience and knowledge to ensure that our community does not lose sight of Aurora’s viability, livability, charm and scale; and contribute in a tangible manner toward ensuring that our town remains a great place to live, raise a family and work, all the while remaining a sustainable community and not simply a bedroom community. Actions that I plan to lead would include ensuring proper protection of our green and natural spaces from over-development, supporting a healthy lifestyle with sports and activity, and safeguarding our parks and school zones with intelligent trafficmanagement solutions. Having worked in nearly every continent, over 20 countries, I offer a well-rounded portfolio built on experience, a strong partnership and cooperative mindset geared to developing strategies that ultimately get things done.

The next council will have to deal with several key items over the coming year, including; increased development, increased traffic, 15-minute Go Train transit, increased crime and accelerated demand on our infrastructure and municipal facilities. As your councillor, I can help identify the issues (as I have for other communities) and, subsequently, work with the solution which ensures Aurora remains the town we all love.
