Chris Ballard --Aurora mayoral candidate

Hi, I’m Chris Ballard, and I’m running to be mayor of Aurora.

I believe our community of Aurora deserves better.  We deserve an effective job strategy for our community --one that attracts big and small business; one that plans for those entering the job market for the first time and those who want to enhance retirement income. We need a housing strategy for younger people and seniors in Aurora --one that provides flexibility for longtime residents who want to downsize.

We cannot afford to have our neighbourhoods taken over by monster homes without thought or planning. We need leadership that will protect us from unnecessary or exorbitant property-tax hikes and expenditures brought about by poor decision-making and no foresight.

None of this will happen by accident or in isolation. Aurora deserves a mayor who is open, accessible and who will listen to YOU.

I grew up in nearby King City. My wife and I moved to Aurora more than 30 years ago and raised our family here. I have owned and operated a business here for almost 27 years. My first job was as a journalist for the Aurora Banner.  I am not new to municipal politics, having spent four years on council before becoming the local member of provincial parliament.

What all my experience has taught me is that communities thrive when their local leaders communicate and listen to residents. Not just every four years at election time, but constantly and regularly and with purpose. Whether it is the town budget, holiday shopping regulations or our historic downtown, you deserve to have a chance for input so decisions reflect the town and community you want to have.

Considerate planning, open communication, and an interest in bringing innovation and creativity to council will be what I bring to the table. Respect for you is my commitment. Refreshing, thoughtful decision-making is my promise. It’s time for change. I ask for your vote: Chris Ballard for a better Aurora.
