Hi, I am Melody Somerville and I am running for East Gwillimbury councillor Ward 3.

I will focus on being proactive to the increasing demands for housing and services within Ward 3 for smart community growth. I will ensure our taxes are reflective now and in perpetuity, while working hard to maximize dollars spent on services such as water, waste, hydro and any other services necessary to maintaining the highest standard of living.

And lastly, I will be dedicated to building community recreational services, outreach and groups for a positive living experience for residents young and old.

My goal is to build a community where families thrive and individuals get involved and invest into making Ward 3 even more special than it already is.

As a member of the East Gwillimbury community for over 10 years, it has been my pleasure to raise my two daughters, work and volunteer within the community, including serving on the Heritage Advisory Board for East Gwillimbury for over four years.

Being raised in an eighth-generation farming family I would bring a unique perspective to the role of councillor because I understand both rural and urban challenges.

Having graduated from the Humber College funeral services course, I have been working as a funeral director for over 20 years.

This career has taught me the importance of honouring the trust that families afford me during their most challenging time, as well as having difficult but necessary conversations. Both are skills I feel will serve me well if given the privilege of being voted in as councillor of East Gwillimbury Ward 3.

I am excited for the opportunity to make a bigger contribution to the East Gwillimbury community.
