As a candidate for councillor in King’s Ward 1, I hope to bring a fresh perspective to the position. I feel the time has come to elect a serious minded councillor who will represent constituents with a no-nonsense approach and who will promptly address concerns and questions of residents.
As a retired executive who ran engineering and operations for a large Canadian broadcasting organization, I am capable of meeting that challenge. In my professional experience, I was responsible for managing multimillion dollar budgets that were utilized for technical, and construction building. My leadership experience, coupled with my penchant for getting things done on time and on budget, has prepared me to serve the citizens of Ward 1 with enthusiasm, vigour and commitment.
As a resident of Ward 1, when concerns surfaced I took action. For example, following the construction of Holy Name Catholic School and the resultant traffic congestion, I fought and succeeded in getting a four-way stop installed at the corner adjacent to the school. I also rallied residents and spoke with them against the proposed building of a Starbucks drive-thru at the corner of King Road/Springhill Drive. I’m prepared to work full time, to concentrate on residents’ needs and ensure that best standards/practices are being fulfilled by township staff and within our community.
I approve of well planned, controlled development that is compatible with our community and does not produce dramatic change. Escalating taxes, poorly maintained vacant land, a lack of affordable housing, and an increase in traffic are issues that have resulted in Ward 1 losing its coveted charm and heritage. It is with open, honest dialogue that I plan to bring genuine transparency back to residents as we strive to restore our town’s lustre.
We need progressive change. It starts with your voice and your vote. On Monday, Oct. 22, vote Kelly Colasanti to champion that change.
