Enbridge Gas Distribution is partnering with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council to help Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire and Emergency Services purchase firefighting training materials.

Project Assist is a program that supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge operates.

“With the ever-changing materials used during home construction, furniture creation and in household cleaners, training staff in public education, code enforcement and modern firefighting techniques is of the outmost importance,” said fire Chief Richard Renaud. “Programs such as Enbridge’s Project Assist help municipalities train fire-prevention officers and firefighters to proactively recognize potential hazards and develop techniques to address these modern-day fires.”

This year’s $100,000 donation will be shared by 20 Ontario fire departments, including Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire and Emergency Services. Funds will be used to purchase educational materials for firefighters to enhance life-saving techniques.

Since the launch of Project Assist in 2012, 120 grants have been provided to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.

“Ongoing firefighter training enables fire departments to deliver emergency services efficiently and to ensure firefighter safety is maintained,” said Ross Nichols, Ontario fire marshal and chair of the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.

“Safety is a priority at Enbridge, and we are proud to support Ontario firefighters who share in our commitment to help keep our communities safe,” said Bhavini Mistry from Enbridge Gas Distribution.
