New home sales across York Region in July followed an overall GTA trend by showing a slight increase from 12 months earlier, according to a report released Aug. 22 by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD).

The report said the new home sales category showed an increase from 35 sales in July 2017 to 62 across York Region.

The numbers pale in light of sales two years ago when BILD reported single new home sales of 286 in York Region for the month of July, but reflect increases also shown for Peel and Halton regions.

Decreases in sales were reported for Durham and Toronto.

In York Region, condo sales dropped from 471 to 91 from the previous year.

The benchmark price of new condominium apartments was $774,759, up 16.5 per cent from last July, but virtually unchanged from last month. The benchmark price of new single-family homes was $1,142,574, down 13.2 per cent from last July and just 0.85 per cent above last month.
