Back-to-school. Back to reality. Back to Labour Day.
What is open on that faithful day before school begins? If you are looking for last-minute school supplies Monday, Sept. 3, you are in luck. If you are seeking city or town-related recreation, check your municipality’s website before leaving the house. Many recreation buildings, such as pools or arenas, are closed Monday.
Here’s our list of what’s open and closed in York Region:
OPEN
- LCBOs and Beer Stores will be open regular business hours on Saturday and Sunday.
- Most major malls, including Upper Canada Mall, Vaughan Mills and Markville Mall are open Monday.
Services
On Labour Day -- Monday, Sept. 3:
- GO Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule. Visit gotransit.com for more details
- YRT services will operate on a holiday schedule on Monday, Sept.3 which is same as Sunday schedule. To view the Sunday schedule, visit YRT, then look under schedules then click on “route navigators”. Also check out yrt.ca for listed service changes.

Where permitted by local municipalities, some LCBO agency stores may observe their normal hours of business on Labour Day
Recreation
- Most recreation facilities and community centres in York Region are closed Monday. Please check your municipality’s website to confirm since there are exceptions.
- Canada Post is closed on Labour Day, with no collection or delivery of mail on those days. However, post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
- Most municipal buildings, including town and city offices, most libraries, community and seniors centres will be closed for regular business on Labour Day.
- Most banks are closed Monday.
