Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for York Region, with highs breaking 30 C over the next few days.

Hot and humid conditions are forecast to remain in place into Wednesday.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach 31 degrees, with humidex values rising to 40. Overnight low temperatures will be in the low twenties providing little relief from the heat.

The Environment Canada news release warns that risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Residents are advised to drink plenty of water even before feeling thirsty and stay in a cool place; and reminded to never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
