Nineteen-year old, Vaughan native Hanna Begovic captured the title of Miss World Canada on Saturday, July 28 at the Toronto Centre for Performing Arts - Lyric Theatre in front of a live audience and webcasted around the world. Over 3000 people tuned in to watch the crowning that night. Alyssa Boston, 23, of Windsor walked away with 1st runner up, and Alice Li, 24, of Toronto received the 2nd runner up title. The grand prize for winning Miss World Canada is $15,000 in prizes including the honor of representing Canada in the Miss World 2018 competition. In addition, Ms. Begovic won the overall talent portion of the Pageant, and performed her dance solo that night. Ms. Begovic is a third-year dance major at York University.

"The final night was a mix of nerves and excitement for me," said Ms. Begovic. "I was thrilled that the night ended with the best possible outcome for me, the Miss World Canada crown. I was so proud of everyone who competed with me and I am truly honoured for the opportunity to represent Canada in Miss World 2018." Hanna isn't new to pageants, she held the title of Miss Teenage Ontario in 2016.

55 delegates from across Canada competed in the 2018 Miss World Canada pageant; for 7 days they toured the city and participated in different segments of the competition. Not your typical beauty pageant, the ladies competed in the sports challenge which was "rock climbing"; this tested their strength, endurance, and balance. Social media and brand ambassadorship was equally important, combined with fundraising for Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, a personal interview and a passionate not for profit platform for the competition's coined "Beauty with a Purpose" project. Ms. Begovic's "Beauty with a Purpose" project was primarily focused around her passion for children and dance, creating a dance program for underprivileged children, who without this program would not be able to participate in arts and dance programs.

"We are very excited to take Hanna's project to the next level. She has already volunteered her time to teach dance, but she wants to create a new program for two age groups. Do a six-week dance program and see where it goes. We are partnering with DLM Entertainment and we hope within the next month we will have our first class up and running," says Michelle Weswaldi, Executive Producer of MTC-W Inc.

What's next for Ms. Begovic? She will begin preparing for her month-long trip to Sanya, China.  She will be competing against over 100 other delegates from across the globe for the grand title of Miss World 2018.

The Miss World pageant is the oldest running pageant in its 67th year. Originally started in England, the Pageant head quarters are still located in London, England. It has grown to 120 countries competing for this once in a lifetime opportunity and this prestigious title. Canada has never won this prestigious title. Hanna is hoping to bring the first win home to Canada.
