Veterans can ride York Region Transit for free on Aug. 18.

The offer coincides with the 97th Warriors' Day parade at the Canadian National Exhibition.

Veterans can identify themselves to YRT and Mobility Plus operators by showing a uniform, medal, beret or blazer.

Immediate family members of deceased veterans can also ride YRT for free that day.

They must show something identifying their relationship to the deceased veteran, such as an identification card or service papers.

Warriors' Day was established in 1921 through the CNE.

The parade is an opportunity to remember heroes who served bravely in Canada’s military services defending the freedom of all Canadians, the Region of York said in a statement.
