A youth park is being built at the south end of Richmond Hill’s Lake Wilcox Park. The park will include a skate park, four beach volleyball courts, two multi-use courts for basketball, futsal soccer and ball hockey, fitness equipment, Wi-Fi access and space to hang out and socialize.
Just the facts:
- The youth park is in the area of Bayview Park and Sandbanks Drive.
- The park is meant for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19.
- While brainstorming ideas for the park, the Town of Richmond Hill got feedback from more than 300 Richmond Hill teens and their parents through an online survey, information booths and workshops.
- The anticipated opening of the park is in spring 2019 (weather permitting).
- As a measure of safety, the site will be fenced off during construction and the town is asking people to refrain from entering the park.
Beyond the youth park, the Lake Wilcox shoreline is getting a makeover. The master plan for this area includes:
- A waterfront promenade, which is now open
- A splash pad which is also now open. Visit the splash pads webpage for details on times and seasonal openings.
- The playground, washrooms, parking lot, seating and picnic area are now open.
- The redevelopment of the Canoe Club area is scheduled for 2021.
