The Cortellucci family has stepped up to the plate in a big way to show its support for Hospice Vaughan, currently under construction.

The prominent Vaughan family recently attended a cheque-presentation ceremony at Vaughan City Hall where the family donated $3 million to the hospice, renamed Hospice Vaughan -- Mario and Nick Cortellucci Hospice Palliative Care Centre of Excellence.

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua was on hand to congratulate the Cortelluccis on their generosity which brings the total raised in the campaign to $10 million, out of the $12 million needed for the construction of the 25,000 square-foot, 10-bed facility at Islington Avenue and Rutherford Road.

“I want to thank Mario and Nick Cortellucci, and their families, for their generosity and commitment to our community. I have known the Cortellucci family for 48 years and throughout these years, I have witnessed many acts of kindness and compassion for the greater good. It is this type of selfless giving which makes our community even stronger,” said Bevilacqua.

"On behalf of the Cortellucci family, we are pleased to have been given the opportunity to contribute to Hospice Vaughan and to help with the successful construction, completion and opening of the Hospice Vaughan -- Mario & Nick Cortellucci Hospice Palliative Care Centre of Excellence, Mario and Nick Cortellucci said in a statement.
