Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services responded to a hopper fire at a furniture business in an industrial area near Jane Street and Hwy. 7 in Vaughan.
Fire officials report the pressure build-up in the hopper caused is door to blow off because of a possible dust explosion.
The hopper was not quite full and is protected by a sprinkler system.
No injuries were reported.
Any combustible material can burn rapidly when divided into a small enough form. Generally speaking, the smaller the dust particle, the greater the potential hazard.
The building next to the hopper was evacuated and firefighters report there was heavy smoke in the main structure.
