1. Everyone is welcome to join in the Nin Os Kom Tin Aboriginal Celebration on Aug. 4 at Fairy Lake in Newmarket. Event runs 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and admission is free.
2. Celebrate the long weekend with fireworks at Canada’s Wonderland on Aug. 5. Enjoy a 15-minute show featuring over 6,000 colourful explosions set to an original soundtrack. Show begins at approximately 10 p.m.
3. Enjoy some good old fashioned fun at the Pefferlaw Picnic and Car Show on Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Event takes place at the Pefferlaw Community Lions Hall and features antique cars, contests, entertainment, food and more. Admission is free.
4. Explore over 50 pieces of children’s book art at the Richmond Hill Heritage Centre’s exhibit CANSCAIP Illustrator Artwork, at the centre until Sept. 29. Admission is free during gallery hours, Tuesday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
5. Listen as the Markham Concert Band fills the summer night with beautiful music during Unionville Concert Sundays. This week’s concert takes place 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the Unionville Millennium Bandstand.
