York Region Events: 5 ways to get sporty this week (July 1 to 7)

1. Grab your lucky bat and head down to the Newmarket Fairgrounds Park for the Batting Cage Opening Ceremony on July 3 at 7 p.m. The park is located just off Muriel St.
2. Check out more baseball action as the Newmarket Hawks take on the Thornhill Reds for a battle of York Region on July 4. Game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Bishops Cross Park located at 2320 John St. in Thornhill.
3. Bring the family to Within Range Golf Centres for RBC Family Golf Day on July 7. Every participant will be given a free bucket of range balls and receive tips from a pro. There are also chances to win prizes from the RBC putting challenge. Event runs from 12 to 4 p.m. at 8111 Leslie Street in Thornhill.
4. Sweat meets sweet during Evolution Cycles’ Thursday Night Ice Cream Ride. Check-in starts at the rear parking lot of Evolution Cycles in Richmond Hill at 6:30 p.m. then the group rides around the parks and trails in Richmond Hill. It ends at La Siciliana Gelato an Café for ice cream.
Stay Cool: Five fun splash pads in York Region
5. Grab some friends and join the York Sport and Social Club softball tournament. Registration deadline is Jul 3 and the tournament is July 7 at Richmond Green Park. All teams play a minimum of four 45 minute games.
