Fire chiefs have lifted burn bans in Richmond Hill and Vaughan as conditions have improved.

Richmond Hill lifted the burn ban on July 25 following a significant rainfall Monday.

Residents still need to apply for an open air burning permit to set a fire in the opening air according to Richmond Hill’s Open Air Burning Bylaw. It does not include small, confined fires used to cook food on a grill or barbecue.

All fires should be supervised at all times.

Residents of Richmond Hill can apply for burning permits to Richmond Hill's Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters at: 1200 Elgin Mills Rd. E.

Residents are encouraged to call the Richmond Hill Fire Prevention Division at 905-883-5444 for more information.

In Vaughan, the fire chief has lifted the burn ban since July 17.

Residents also need to obtain a residential fire burn permit by visiting any fire station or calling the Vaughan Fire Prevention Division at 905-832-8531. The charge for a permit is $35.

Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services will continue to enforce a “zero” tolerance policy for any unauthorized burning.
