Have your say on the future of Hamilton’s forests

The City of Hamilton is looking to keep its greenery and is starting to draft a long-term plan for the urban forest.

Hamilton’s tree canopy has taken a beating from bad weather and infestations like the emerald ash borer.

The infestation was confirmed in 2009 and since 2010 the city has been cutting down ash trees and replacing them with other species the bug finds less tasty.

Now, Hamilton is developing an Urban Forest Strategy for the protection and maintenance of trees and forests in the GTHA.

Among other things, it will create a sample inventory of trees and develop a community vision for what the urban forest should look like.

You can have some input by taking a survey that’s available on the City of Hamilton’s website.

The strategy is expected to be unveiled in the spring of 2019.
