Severe thunderstorm watch issued for northern York Region

Residents advised watch out for heavy winds, rain

Nasty weather could be moving into northern York Region this afternoon, according to Environment Canada.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms with potential for wind gusts of almost 90 km/h and heavy rainfall of 25 to 50 mm in an hour or less in areas.

Environment Canada issued a severe storm watch just before 2 p.m.

Environment Canada also issued a warning at 1:54 p.m. advising Keswick was among communities in the path of the severe thunderstorm threat, but the warning ended within an hour. The watch remains in effect.
