Mary Ng, Markham-Thornhill MP, who was only elected to Parliament in a byelection just 16 months ago, has been elevated to cabinet in a shuffle by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the morning of July 18.

Ng, who worked as appointments secretary for Trudeau before running in the byelection in March 2017 to replace longtime MP John McCallum, has been appointed minister for small business and export promotion.

She joins a number of other MPs and cabinet ministers who were either shuffled to new portfolios or elevated to cabinet as Trudeau makes changes in advance of the October 2019 federal election.
