Vaughan Fire Chief Deryn Rizzi will celebrate the debut of Miss Universe Canada events in the city of Vaughan by serving as keynote speaker for the opening gala.
Rizzi, who was appointed the service’s first female fire chief earlier this year, said she is “incredibly honoured to serve” as this year’s keynote speaker for the 68th version of Miss Universe Canada, which kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Ivy Social Club in Vaughan.
“I’m looking forward to celebrating and sharing the evening with this year’s awe-inspiring finalists who have become incredible role models for their community and inspire other women to recognize their greatness and do wonderful things; that we can be of service and leave the world in a better place,” she said.
The 55 contestants from across Canada will be visiting Vaughan City Hall, KPMG Headquarters in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and the Riviera Events and Convention Centre.
“Vaughan continues to elevate its reputation as a leading destination to host national and international conferences, competitions and events. We welcome the remarkable women who will be participating in the 2018 Miss Universe Canada competition,” said Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.
The Miss Universe Canada 2018 pageant takes place on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the John Bassett Theatre, Toronto Convention Centre.
