Summer is here, and that means it is time for delicious, farm-fresh produce. Here are five farms in York Region where people can pick their own seasonal treats.
1. Brooks Farms--East Gwillimbury
Brooks farm offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables for picking, including strawberries, peas, raspberries, currents and more. Additionally, they offer a café and playland. The farm is located at 122 Ashworth Rd, Mount Albert. For more information visit brooksfarms.com.
2. Robintide Farms--King City/Vaughan
Stay Cool: Five fun splash pads in York Region
This beautiful farm, just south of Bradford is open to people who want to pick strawberries, raspberries, peas and beans. Located at 2720 King-Vaughan Rd. Visit robintidefarms.com/ for more information.
3. Strawberry Creek Farms--Newmarket
This farm, located at 17471 Woodbine Ave. offers a chance to pick your own strawberries, raspberries, peas, beans and pumpkins (depending on the season). If you don’t have time to pick, stop by the farm market. There is also a playground.
4. Farintosh Farms--Stouffville
Pick a variety of seasonal vegetables like green beans and sweet corn at Farintosh Farms, located at 11858 Warden Ave. Call the pick-your-own hotline 24-7 at 905-887-5727 before your visit. There is also a market that opens when the sweet corn starts. Visit farintosh.com.
5. Organics Farm--Markham
The strawberry season is just wrapping up at Organics Farm, located at 7550 19th Ave., but apple picking will be offered later in the year. They also have a variety of organic produce seasonably available, along with naturally raised meat, herbs, and other goodies. Visit organicsfarm.ca/.
