A modified and improved Innovative Technology Asset Map for Durham Region, was launched on June 29, 2018. Now established as a web portal, this map highlights Durham Region’s 69 technology companies, 29 support organizations and 40 start-ups, while providing intelligence on businesses by location.
“The Innovative Technology Asset Map is a key indication that this sector is booming in Durham Region. To ensure we have captured who is within our community—and the scope and size of the cluster—our new product allows companies to submit their details via an online application process,” said Kathy Weiss, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for Durham Region. “This full list will help us to promote opportunities on the global stage; confirming that our region is definitely the right choice for a bright future.
Viewed as a key investment attraction tool, the asset map allows us to understand strengths and gaps within this sector. By keeping an inventory of local companies, we can assist in guiding the strategies to grow Durham’s technology cluster and foster B2B partnerships.
The listed technology companies are those that develop new and/or improved technological processes or approaches; or re-create existing technology to positively alter use and results. The intent of this technological development is to be scalable, creating maximum impact.
The portal is accessible through a variety of ways, including the Durham Economic Development website at investdurham.ca; the Durham Innovation and Technology Portal at ditp.ca; or by phone to Kathy Weiss at 905-668-4113 ext. 2602.
