If you are in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive and Highway 404 in Richmond Hill and see construction, maybe you will stop, take a look around and spot an orange sign fence that explains what’s happening. Then again, maybe you won’t have time for that. Here’s the explanation: The construction is the Liuna Local 506 training centre expansion.
Just the Facts:
- Address: 1600 Major Mackenzie Dr. E.
- Location: North side of Major Mackenzie Drive, east of Leslie Street. This property abuts valley lands associated with the Rouge River to the north and west, Major Mackenzie Drive to the south and Via Renzo Drive to the east.
- Estimated completion date: Fall 2018.
- Concerns: During a statutory council public meeting on June 19, 2013, Liuna Local 506’s zoning bylaw amendment application and site plan application were discussed. The main issues identified at the public meeting were related to traffic, tree preservation and the dedication of valley lands and associated buffers, continued use of the existing community garden and stormwater management. “The applicant reviewed these matters and has worked with key town departments and external agencies to address these concerns,” says a committee of the whole meeting report dated June 21, 2016.
- History: The Local 506 training centre was built in 1991.
