The peaceful Oakbank pond area has been a little less peaceful for months because of the fencing and other related construction materials and activities.
But, the pond’s serene scene will soon be restored since revitalization is expected to be finished by the end of July. Read below for more on the area’s revitalization:
Just the Facts
- Oakbank Pond is at 250 Centre St. The nearest intersection is Centre and Bathurst streets.
- The boardwalk and park redevelopment began in early January 2018.
- Work included: redeveloping the boardwalk and walkways, asphalt paving, grading, tree and shrub planting, sodding and construction of a new lookout deck.
- The boardwalk was replaced in the mid-1990s, but the rest of the park has not been redeveloped for 20 years, said Michael McNamara the Parks Development Landscape Architect leading this project.
- This is one of several city projects being completed as part of the Canada 150 infrastructure program.
- The Centre Street sidewalk was expected to remain open for a majority of the construction works, however it will be closed for a short period to complete the last phase of construction.
