Get ready for a wild ride of weather over the next few days.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for York Region.
We will start off today, June 27, with the threat of heavy thunderstorms that could bring between 15 and 25 mm of rain.
The high will reach 21 C but the humidex will make it feel like 26 C, Environment Canada said.
Showers are expected to end overnight, although there's a risk of a thunderstorm after midnight.
All that rain will be followed by extreme heat over the Canada Day long weekend.
Blame a persistent flow from the Gulf of Mexico, which will bring hot and humid air, Environment Canada said.
“Beginning Friday or Saturday and continuing through the Canada Day long weekend, expected daytime highs are in the low- to mid-30s with humidex values into the mid 40s,” the weather agency said.
“Overnight low temperatures will only fall to the low 20s, providing little or no relief from the heat.”
Environment Canada isn’t sure when there will be a break in the scorching temperatures.
“There is still uncertainty regarding when the heat event will come to an end. Current indications suggest the heat could persist into the middle of next week,” it said.
“This will likely be the most significant heat event of the season thus far. Heat warnings will be issued as the event draws nearer.”
