Aurora and Newmarket are getting 190 new child care spaces.
Newmarket-Aurora MP Chris Ballard paid a visit to Newmarket’s Denison Child Care Centre to announce $2 million in funding for the centre to build four new child care rooms to accommodate 73 new spaces. He also announced another $3 million in funding for the Aurora Children’s Centre to build six new child care rooms with 117 spaces.
“I am proud to be part of a government that invests in families,” he said. “Adding these new 190 child care spaces in Newmarket-Aurora is an investment in our children and an important step toward improving access to high-quality child care for all families.”
These projects are required to be complete prior to Dec. 31, 2020 although the spaces could be available before this date.
This funding comes as part of the province’s commitment to create 100,000 more spaces for children ages zero to four over the next five years on top of investing in renovation and additional projects at schools across the province, which will create more than 15,000 new licensed child care spaces.
These won’t be the only spaces opening in York Region as the province has earmarked $16.2 million to create 42 child care rooms and 757 spaces locally.
