There's a new club in town.

The Canadian Premier League is expected to reveal one of its inaugural clubs on Thursday at Vaughan City Hall.

The club's name - believed to be York 9 FC - will play out of a yet-to-be-confirmed stadium in York Region when the CPL opens this time next year.

The ownership group will feature former Toronto FC captain and Canadian international Jimmy Brennan, a native of Newmarket, Ont.

News of a second professional team in the Greater Toronto Area arrives a week after the CPL unveiled its league crest and manifesto.

The Canadian Soccer Association this week also approved club membership for ownership groups in Halifax, Calgary and Port City, B.C., paving the way for the trio to join the CPL next year.

Clubs in Hamilton and Winnipeg also are expected to join the league when it opens with eight to 10 teams, as well as teams in Edmonton and Ottawa.
