Here are five things coming to King in 2018:

1.Provincial election -- June 7, 2018 will be election day in Ontario and it will be the first provincial election with new riding boundaries. In the new riding of King-Vaughan Liberal hopeful Marilyn Iafrate will take on Progressive Conservative hopeful Stephen Lecce.

2.Municipal election King residents will head to the polls again Oct. 22 to elect a mayor and councillors for the town. The biggest question is will anyone challenge current Mayor Steve Pellegrini who was acclaimed in 2014.

3.New municipal office -- The days of the municipal office being located at the strip mall on King Road are nearly over. The town is getting set to move into its new digs next year. Construction is estimated to take roughly a year, with a completion target date of late summer/early fall 2018. The new municipal office the town is building at 2585 King Rd. will have more space, including a gym and York Regional Police substation.

4.Highway 9 bridge construction -- The lengthy construction at the Highway 9 bridge at Highway 400 is set to be completed next year. The construction contract includes widening of Highway 400 to provide for future HOV lanes, reconstruction of the interchange at Highway 9, reconstruction of the South Canal bridges and all associated highway features necessary for the highway widening and upgrades.

5. Laskay Hall new location-- Laskay Hall was recently moved from the hamlet of Laskay to the grounds of the King Heritage and Cultural Centre in King City. The move will result in several benefits starting in 2018 including more parking, additional cultural programming and alternative exhibit and performing arts space.
