Another traffic light is coming to Hoover Park Drive next year. Council pre-approved $40,000 in the 2018 budget for staff to fast-track the construction of a traffic light at Hoover Park and Mostar Street.

According to Whitchurch-Stouffville's public works director Rob Flindall $40,000 works out to roughly 20 per cent of the total cost of the light. Flindall said residents could expect the light to be installed some time next fall. Ward 4 Coun. Rick Upton said anything that could be done to speed up the process to have it in place when school returns next September would be beneficial. While the intersection does have two crossing guards, parents have raised safety concerns as they take children to the nearby Oscar Peterson Public School.

According to a staff report, traffic control signals at the intersection will help vehicle access onto and across Hoover Park as well as address pedestrian safety concerns from surrounding neighbourhoods.

The traffic study used in the report said the intersection in question sees traffic volumes of more than 80,000 cars a week. The intersection wasn't due for a light until 2021, but the town has moved that timeline forward to address concerns.
