It was a special day on October 14, 2017, as the Veneto Centre (located on 7465 Kipling Avenue) initiated the 34 metre tall replica of the “Campanile” or Bell Tower (as seen in St. Mark’s Square, Venice) ceremony in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary and to commemorate the presence and contributions of the Italian and particularly, the Veneto, communities in Ontario and in Canada.
During this event, the community—including honourable dignitaries like MP Francesco Sorbara (Vaughan-Woodbridge), Hon. Steven Del Duca, MPP (Vaughan), Deputy Mayor, Local and Regional Councillor Mario Ferri and MP Deb Schulte (King-Vaughan)—gathered together to enjoy a performance by the Corale Veneto before the official ceremony began. The dedication of the Campanile and Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony soon followed, which featured the unveiling of the donor’s plaques and honorable dignitaries’ speeches. The beautiful bells were than blessed and the first harmonic ringing of the bells were heard. Afterwards, a multicolour display and Illumination of the tower and honour guards provided by Carabinieri, Bersaglieri and Alpini, along with a remarkably exquisite gala dinner—which also featured speeches from the Italian Ambassador and other dignitaries.
Thanks to Elio Granzotto, Vic De Zen and Imperia Berton for providing the three bells for the tower. To learn more about the Bell Tower please visit: venetocentre.com/site/
