The fourth Muslim Festival of Vaughan (MFV) was a big draw this year, as numerous families showed up for a day of fun and entertainment at Mackenzie Glen District Park. The festival—which is an annual event to promote inter-community and inter-faith harmony—was held in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Multicultural People (CAMP). The diverse and multicultural event on Saturday highlighted the festival’s growth and accomplishments, while promoted unity, love and peace.
The highly anticipated event started off with a Quran recitation, the National Anthem and a song praising the last Prophet Muhammed at 1 p.m. An official opening/ cake cutting ceremony, with dignitaries in attendance, followed. Several community leaders from the Muslim community also attended to congratulate the young MFV team. Also in attendance to congratulate the team and provide some words of wisdom were: MP Francesco Sorbara; Ward 1 Councillor Marilyn Iafrate; Stephen Lecce, who brought greetings from Hon. Leader of the opposition Patrick Brown; and Bill Mcbain, who spoke on behalf of MP Charlie Angus.
The festival also included a reptile show for the kids—which featured a python and other South American reptiles—a magic show, toe tapping English and Arabic music, food stalls, lectures, poetry, spoken words and a presentation throughout the day from Hafsa Siddiqi.
“We are very much encouraged by the response MFV generated in Vaughan over the four years and I am happy that the objective of integration and multiculturalism are being realized on the small scale,” said Mrs. Siddiqi.
