York Region’s social housing repairs will kill two birds with one stone.
Newmarket-Aurora MPP Chris Ballard paid a visit to Trinity Glen Housing Corporation in Newmarket to announce new funding from the provincial government for repairs and retrofits to social housing in York Region. The $17.3 million earmarked for the region comes from Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan and is funded by proceeds from the province’s carbon market.
The funding will help improve buildings with new energy efficient heating, improved insulation and window replacements.
By law, proceeds from Ontario’s carbon market must be invested into programs that help households and businesses reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money on energy costs. Programs include home energy retrofits, public transit, social housing retrofits, electric vehicle incentives and infrastructure.
