Aurora challenges residents to balance town's budget using online tool
Participants earn a chance to win $250 toward their property tax bill

Fancy yourself a financial wizard? Well, Aurora has a challenge for you.

The municipality is offering residents a chance to win $250 toward their tax bill — or the equivalent — by inviting them to use an online tool to decide where to allocate tax dollars in order to balance the town’s budget.

You must balance the budget to within $200,000 to submit your choices.

The town hopes by engaging taxpayers in an exercise where they have to increase spending in one area or decrease it in another, officials will get a sense of programs and services that matter most to citizens.

Council is aiming to limit next year’s property tax increase to 3.1 per cent, said a news release.

The 2018 Citizen Budget tool — available until Tuesday, Oct. 31 —  can be found at http://aurora.citizenbudget.com.
