A local outreach centre that has helped more than 9,000 women and children since 2009 is closing its doors Oct. 1 due to a lack of funding.
Empowerment Through Achievement Vaughan Women's Shelter and Outreach Centre (ETA Vaughan), which opened Dec. 29, 2009, has run largely on private support throughout the years, but lost that support recently.
A three-paragraph statement on the ETA Vaughan website dated Sept. 1 and titled, Re: Notice of Agency Closure, states that "Since inception, ETA Vaughan has been working without government assistance and due to continuous non-support, has had to close."
The statement adds that"we are no longer accepting donations and we will ensure that women, youth and children are redirected to other support networks in our community."
